On May 20, 2024, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic Edil Baysalov held a meeting at the Ministry of Education and Science with rectors of 18 higher educational institutions.
At the meeting, they discussed the incident of an attack on a dormitory with foreign students in the capital and the necessary measures to restore the educational process and maintain the attractiveness of the republic’s educational institutions for foreign students.
“Currently, on behalf of the state leadership, the Cabinet of Ministers is considering the issue of paying for damages to injured foreign students. In what form and within what time frame such compensation will be carried out will be announced additionally,” said Edil Baisalov.
The meeting participants discussed issues of ensuring the safety and well-being of students, strengthening their integration into the life of local communities and conducting outreach work, both within the country and abroad.
Deputy Head of the Cabinet of Ministers Edil Baisalov also said that, on behalf of the state leadership, the next meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers will be devoted to the issue of organizing the necessary educational and pedagogical work with young people, as well as stopping the mass import of illegal labor migrants into the country and ensuring public order.
The EIU administration is concerned about the lives of foreign students. Together with the teaching staff, he carries out activities to ensure peace of mind among foreign students living in hostels and the university dormitory. Takes measures to provide food to those in need and relocates them, as necessary, from the hostel to the university dormitory. Every day, together with law enforcement agencies, he organizes a vigil near the EIU dormitory and keeps in touch with students living in hostels.
