As part of the Day of History and Remembrance of Ancestors, students of the Eurasian International University visited the “Ata-Beyit” memorial complex. The excursion was led by history lecturer G.A. Akmatyldaeva, who told the students about the tragic events of the Stalinist repressions and the significance of this place in the history of Kyrgyzstan.

The “Ata-Beyit” complex is the burial site of 138 Kyrgyz citizens executed in 1938 during the period of Stalinist repression. The memorial was named by the world-renowned writer Chingiz Aitmatov.

The territory of the complex also includes a museum featuring exhibits of personal belongings of the victims, discovered during the excavation of the mass grave.

In addition, “Ata-Beyit” is the final resting place of Chingiz Aitmatov himself, an outstanding writer and diplomat, as well as citizens who died during the April Revolution of April 7, 2010.

The visit to the memorial complex became an important history lesson for the students and a reminder of the enduring value of memory, freedom, and justice.
